Rob's Ramblings
Hello GSBMWR’s families and friends,

Thanksgiving has come and gone and I hope you all enjoyed the holiday with all the fixin’. There was a good turn out at Max BMW for their annual celebration. I saw many motorcycles; there was hardly any room for a car, not a bad thing if you think about it. Our club was well represented and enjoying themselves. I am glad the weather did not turn bad until after the weekend. I have been out riding these last few days, dreading the day when I will put the bike in hibernation. So far in my part of New England I have not seen any black ice, but I am sure that time is coming soon. I have started the winter prep with gas treatment, made sure the trickle charger works and had my snow blower serviced.

At this time I want to thank the out going club officers especially Vince Chase and Chuck Otto, they have served well. All the officers stayed the same except for the Secretary and a Director. Our new Secretary is Louise Bendix; she accepted the nomination and was voted in at our board meeting, I am sure she will do a wonderful job. Tim Treagea is a new Director; Tim is a fairly new member and ready for the challenge. Please welcome our new officers when you see them and thank the officers that are retiring from their posts.

Our annual Christmas Bash will be December 4, 2011 at noon at Chen Yang Li, in Bow, NH. Remember the Yankee swap bring a gift and have some fun.

We have to change our Club Logo to fall in step with MOA and RA if we wish to remain an affiliated club. We are sending a Logo to see if it meets the requirements, Louise and Vince have been working on this issue. If you have ideas, comments or questions please contact any of us and we will try to pass on the information to the right person.

Hope to see you all at the Bash,

Rob Sherwood

BASH a Success

Our last club event, the Holiday Bash, was a success.  Over 30 members and friends enjoyed a great meal at the Chen Yang Li restaurant in Bow, NH.  Before the door prize drawing the new officers were introduced and the outgoing officers were thanked for their service to the club.  We would like to thank Max BMW Motorsports, Second Wind BMW, Sunset Grill and for the door prizes. The Yankee Swap had a lot of laughs and fun gifting.  Surprisingly, the "Mr. T" head did not make an apppearance in the Yankee Swap.

The next club event will be the Board Meeting will be March 2012 to set club events and rallies for the 2012 riding season.

Long time member Charlie Diamond passes away.
It is with sadness that we report the passing of long-time member and riding buddy Charlie Diamond, #19, just shy of his 70th birthday.  Charlie and his wife, Mary Jane, contributed much to the Granite State BMW Riders.  The "waterfall rides" that he and Mary Jane put together were enjoyed by members for many seasons. Charlie was a dynamic individual whose antics and charm remain bright in our memory.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Charlie and his family.

Jewel On A Beemer
by Vince Chase

In a blog in "The Boot", an AOL music site, singer/song-writer Jewel tells the story of how
she and her husband, champion pro rodeo rider Ty Murray, make a major change in their
lives and come to own BMW motorcycles.

At the start of the blog, Jewel undertakes a personal introspective to re-discover what
happiness means to her.  In a review of her priorities, Jewel tells us of her drive to be the
best in her personal pursuits as well as all the projects that she and Ty were involved with
had started to make her life away from work feel more like an albatross instead of an
escape.  At the end of her soul-search, Jewel reaffirms that simpler makes her happier.
To take advantage of her youth, she decides to pursue more personal freedom instead of
more noteriety.

To distance themselves from their work routine, Jewel and Ty agree that motorcycling is
for them.  After attending some riding classes, she takes us through the decision-making
process they used to select GS bikes from BMW for their two-wheel adventures.

At the start of their first long distance ride together (a 3,000 mile trip around the state of
Texax during Christmas 2009), we see pictures of a beaming Jewel on her new F650GS
while Ty is straddling a R1200GS.  In describing her ride, Jewel speaks of reconnecting
with her "original joy for travelling" and how she likes the fact that she can take her GS
down a dirt trail when the mood strikes as well as being comfortable on the highway.

Throughout the narrative, Jewel's depictions of her travels bring the reader into the Zen-like
state that she experiences while on the open road.  She revels in the focus she needs for
riding a motorcycle and how it keeps her professional world from intruding into her psyche.

Toward the end of her blog, Jewel has a personal revelation while riding her bike that
reflects, in microcosim, a truth in life that BMW riders have come to know all too well ...
Der Weg ist das Ziel.
